About ISA

An accreditation body for conformity assessment bodies, operating to ISO/IEC 17011.

History and background

International Standards Accreditation (ISA) was founded on 19 January 1979 in Alaska, USA, with the aim of improving the quality and safety of products, services and processes. ISA accredits certification bodies, laboratories and inspection bodies that meet the requirements of international standards.

Accreditation by ISA is open to every eligible applicant on equal terms. It is granted only after an independent assessment of competence, impartiality and consistent operation.

ISA is funded by accreditation, assessment and training fees. It does not offer consultancy or certification services. Accreditation decisions are taken by persons who did not take part in the assessment.
